About the Administrators of Color in the DC/MD/VA Area:
Started in the fall of 2012, The AOC/DMV is the product of a collaboration between Jalene Spain-Thomas and Rodney Glasgow, supported by their schools - The Beauvoir School and St. Andrew's Episcopal School, respectively. Building from the affinity group formed during their graduate work at Klingenstein, Jalene and Rodney saw the value in bringing together future and aspiring administrators of color in the independent schools in their region. They envisioned opportunities to connect, support, and grow around the common endeavor of diversifying these institutions. The group meets at various schools throughout the year who serve as our host, giving us space to break bread and bond as we discuss relevant topics. Drawing on our own dynamic resources, members of the group have also served as its facilitators and session leaders. Our members have various roles in their schools - Director of Diversity, Assistant Head of School, Division Head, Head of School, Dean of Faculty, Academic Dean, Teacher, Business Manager, Director of Technology, Director of Service Learning, Director of Admission, etc.
